N.J. Thomasville stores eyed

Fairfield, N.J. — Thomasville Stores of New Jersey and Virginia will double its New Jersey presence with plans to add five stores there in three to five years.
To focus on New Jersey, the retailer recently sold its Virginia stores to Thomasville Furniture Inds, a division of Furniture Brands International, for an undisclosed sum. The four northern Virginia stores are in Alexandria, Fairfax, Tysons Corner and Woodbridge.
In New Jersey, the retailer is looking for sites for two stores it plans to open in early 2008, although it didn't say where. By 2010–2012, the company expects to have 10 stores in the state.
"We are working toward the goal of being the 'top-of-mind' furniture retailer in our market," said Michael Massood, president and CEO. "We've had huge success with our New Jersey stores, which are among the best-performing Thomasville-licensed stores in the country, and now we are building on that achievement."
He said New Jersey "is where our roots are and, more importantly, we are choosing locations where our customers expect us to be."
The company opened its first New Jersey store in Woodbridge in late 2002, followed by Paramus, Princeton, Eatontown and East Hanover.
"I attribute much of our success to our people," said Massood. "Most of our salespeople have at least 15 years experience selling home furnishings in this market. They really understand who our customers are, what our customers need are, and what they need to do to keep them happy."
