Edison, N.J. — More than 5,300 buyers from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania attended the 50th Edison Furniture & Accessory Market here in early February, organizer Karel Exposition Management reported.
About 250 exhibitors used all 200,000 square feet available at the show in the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center.
"Taking into account a weak economy and freezing temperatures, the Edison market was an outstanding success," said Larry Karel, president of Karel Exposition Management.
He said he had gotten positive feedback on the event since heading back to the company's headquarters in Aventura, Fla.
"In all my years in the industry, this show will stand out as being an exceptional one. Just about every exhibitor came to the show office and signed up for the next one," said Karel. He said the next show in Edison, Aug. 5–7, is "90% sold out."
To open the February show, Edison Mayor Jun H. Choi attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the market's 50th visit to the city. Among those taking part were Sherry Fleischner, KEM director of sales, and exhibitors John Turano of John Turano & Son and Tommy Russo of Union City Mirror and Table. Both companies have exhibited at all 50 Edison shows.
