By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 25, 2007
Boca Raton, Fla. — Herbert Diamond, former chief financial officer of now-defunct contemporary upholstery maker Selig Mfg. Co. in Leominster, Mass., has died of an apparent heart attack. He was 80.
Born in Frankfurt, Germany, Diamond came to New York at age 13, working at night, attending school during the day and reading newspapers to help him learn English. When he was 18, he joined the U.S. Army.
Although he loved the arts, circumstances prompted him to focus on finance. He worked in accounting for AMC in New York and then joined Selig, where he spent most of his career. He then became chief operating officer of furniture producer Harvey Probber in Fall River, Mass.
Diamond is survived by his wife; three children, including son Richard, who most recently was COO/Asia for home décor company Harvey Lewis; a granddaughter; two sisters and a brother.
