Décor-Rest launches condo seating with Canadian TV's Designer Guys

Toronto — Canadian stationary upholstery maker Décor-Rest has teamed with this country's original TV Designer Guys to create a new collection of condo-scaled contemporary and transitional seating for emerging urban markets.
Launched at the winter market here, the S&C Collection got excellent placements with buyers and will be a highlight of Décor-Rest's presentation at the High Point Market in late March, said Christina Marzilli, executive vice president.
S&C stands for Steven Sabados and Chris Hyndman, the original Designer Guys. "Steve and Chris are pioneers in TV home design shows, and have been entertaining North American audiences for over seven years," said Marzilli.
"Since their debuts in the current design/lifestyle programs 'Design Rivals' and 'So Chic,' they have become household names."
The collection for Décor-Rest is their first foray into furniture. The initial S&C Collection consists of five groups of sofas, loveseats and chairs. Each piece comes either fully skirted or with a choice of a grooved or plain showood base or leg, covered in any of 70 fabrics or 60 leathers.
Also included in the collection are four accent chairs in fabric or leather and a contemporary queen- or king-size headboard that can be covered in any of the available fabrics.
Accenting the platinum coil seating are toss cushions stuffed with waterfowl feathers and encased in 100% cotton twill. The opening price points for a sofa run from C$1,099 to C$1,299.
The S&C Collection is designed to be merchandised in a gallery format, and Décor-Rest is offering a variety of marketing tools, including a fabric work station, a toss cushion and carpet stand, screen dividers and a greeting stand with flat screen capabilities.
Marzilli said the first shipments are expected to hit retail floors in April.
Sabados said he and Hyndman are excited about the new collection and were pleased to be working with Décor-Rest.
"Décor-Rest has an outstanding reputation in the marketplace," the pair said in a statement. "Their level of workmanship is one of the best in Canada and North America, capable of producing quality merchandise at a reasonable price. We were thrilled to be able to work with Christina Marzilli and her talented team to produce a line of furnishings that we are extremely proud of."
This is Décor-Rest's second foray into designer collections. For the past several years, the family owned and operated manufacturer has been producing the Alexander Julian At Home collection in collaboration with the well-known U.S. apparel and textile designer.
Sabados began his career doing display work for Roots Canada and the now-defunct Eaton's department stores before forming his own company, The Sabados Group, in 1992. For several years, he was a contributing editor and monthly columnist for Canadian House and Home magazine.
After appearing on such TV shows as "House and Home," he became a regular on "This Small Space" before making it big as one of The Designer Guys.
Hyndman joined The Sabados Group in 1992 and also appeared on a number of design and decorating TV shows before starring in The Designer Guys.
In 2005, the two began designing a variety of home furnishings and textiles, including bed, table and bath linen, window coverings, area rugs and decorative accessories.
They plan on adding seasonal furniture, dinnerware, paint and interior trim soon.
