Pinnacles honor top designs

Fifteen designers and design groups were honored with Pinnacle Design Achievement Awards, presented by the American Society of Furniture Designers at a gala here last night.
Members of the Martha Stewart Signature Design Team for Bernhardt Furniture won a pair of awards, in the home office and occasional storage categories.
Major collections: Belle Maison by Michael Black and Ed Ball for Drexel Heritage Furniture. Other nominees were Biltmore Estate for Your Home by Matt Hurley and Dudley Moore Jr. for Magnussen Home; Kelly Hoppen Collection by Kelly Hoppen for Century Furniture; and Caperana by William Faber for Century Furniture.
Occasional tables: Glasgow by Matt Hurley, Dudley Moore Jr. and Susan Leis for Magnussen Home. Other nominees were Gabriella's Tea Cart by Lauren Brooks Designs by Kathy Imes for Vanguard Furniture; New Omni by William Faber for Century Furniture; and Halifax by Michael Wolk for Allan Copley Designs.
Occasional storage: Larkspur Bar Cabinet by Barbara Kurgan, Jonsara Ruth and Paul Loebach (Martha Stewart Signature Design Team) for Bernhardt Furniture. Other nominees were A-Shoe-In by Jena Hall for Aspenhome; Whitney Serpentine Sideboard by Barbara Kurgan, Jonsara Ruth and Paul Loebach (Martha Stewart Signature Design Team) for Bernhardt Furniture; and Barcelona Bar Cabinet by Martin de Blois for Polidor.
Juvenile furniture: Z-Bedroom by John Conrad, Anne Russell and Sean Slack for Powell Co. Other nominees were Old World Crib by Kelly Neal Mariotti for Green Frog Art; Sunday Funnies by Jeffry Blaesing and Walt Shaw for Powell Co.; and Surfer's Chase by Michael Warren and Shannon Lookabill for Stanley Furniture.
Casual dining: Marga by Marcel Optal and Maya Basyroel for Box Furniture. Other nominees were Tradewinds by Michael Cal and Joey Ursula for David Francis Furniture; Tangent Square by Carl Muller for Elite Mfg.; and Cristallo Paletta by James Dipersia for Excelsior Designs.
Formal dining: Omni Dining by William Faber for Century Furniture. Other nominees were Hampton Library by Jorge Jaramillo and Margaret Leigh for Zocalo; Ceriana by James Dipersia for Excelsior Designs; and Louis Louis by Rick Schroeder for Stanley Furniture.
Motion upholstery: Zac & Jill by Rick Lee for American Leather. Other nominees were Aries by Jack Lewis for Jaymar Furniture; Atlantis by John Contreras for Elite Leather; and Seaney by Lauren Brooks Designs by Kathy Imes for Vanguard Furniture.
Stationary upholstery: Teri by Nancy Genova for John Charles Designs. Other nominees were Valerie by Todd Oldham for La-Z-Boy Residential; Morrison's Sofa by Lauren Brooks Designs by Kathy Imes for Vanguard; and Monica's Chaise by Lauren Brooks Designs by Kathy Imes for Vanguard.
Leather upholstery: Pasadena by Michael F. Galardo for Elite Leather. Other nominees were Sloane by Bud Caywood for Hancock & Moore; Leda Home Theater by Rick Lee for American Leather; and Marlon by Lulu DeKwiatkowski for Elite Leather.
Bedroom: Young Classics by Jena Hall and Stephanie Lena for Aspenhome. Other nominees were Woolrich Summerstone Falls by Troy A. Hollis for Lexington Home Brands; Irvington Nickel Plated bed by Barbara Kurgan, Jonsara Ruth and Paul Loebach (Martha Stewart Signature Design Team) for Bernhardt Furniture; and Savoy by Berry & Clark Design Associates for Planum.
Home office: New Amsterdam Secretary by Dale Peterson, Jonsara Ruth and Stacy Mar (Martha Stewart Signature Design Team) for Bernhardt Furniture. Other nominees were Young Classics Nano Desk by Andy Nielsen, Ken Levi and Jena Hall for Aspenhome; Tufano by Michael Warren and Shannon Lookabill for Sligh Furniture; and Melbourne by Joe McCambridge for Sligh Furniture.
Entertainment/home theater: Umber TV Console by Gordon Stannis and Joe VanFaasen for Sligh Furniture. Other nominees were Crossings by Rick Shaver for Cresent Fine Furniture; Vista Collection by Keith Myers, Doug Gerig and Tim Parsons for Sauder Woodworking; and Cambridge Hideaway by Cale Knopf for Century Furniture.
Accessories: Stone Sculptures by Yuri Zatarain for The Phillips Collection. Other nominees were Capital Balcony by Jodell Clark for Global Views; Custom Rugs by Pia by Pia Cyrulnik for Carpet Creation; and Barcelona Screen by Martin de Blois for Polidor.
Lighting: Celeste Table Lamp by Ian Fowler for Decorative Crafts. Other nominees were Edward Alden Table and Floor Lamps by John Burke for Lighting Enterprises, and Bella Rustica by Billy Moon for Progressive Lighting.
Summer/casual: Sun Chaser by Dale Campbell for Lloyd Flanders. Also nominated were Weybridge by Shaun Sweeney for Woodard; Strata by Michael Farrell for Brown Jordan; and Eclipse Sling Rocking Chaise by John Caldwell for Wood-ard/Langrave.
This was the 11th annual Pinnacle Awards presentation. Judging was done earlier this year by a panel that included Richard Bennington, High Point University; Gary Evans, Furniture/Today; Leslie Fishbein, Kacey Fine Furniture, Denver; Francel Goude, RFG - Global Design Group; Jackie Hirschhaut, American Home Furnishings Alliance; Dan Minor, Boyles Furniture, James-town, N.C.; Thelma Lazo-Flores, Savannah College of Art and Design; Sheila Long O'Mara, Home Furnishings Business; Max Shangle, Kendall College of Art and Design; Julie Smith, Furniture Style; John Summey, North Carolina State University, Furniture Manufacturing and Management Center; and Rhonda Wolf, Havertys, Atlanta.
