Designers lock horns on TV

New York — A new reality TV show combines an interior design theme with head-to-head competition.
"Top Design" pits six men and six women against one another in a contest whose winner will have his or her design concepts featured in an editorial spread in Elle Décor magazine this spring.
The 10-episode show, which premiered Jan. 31, airs Wednesdays on the Bravo cable channel. It's hosted by designer Todd Oldham and features designers Jonathan Adler and Kelly Wearstler, along with Margaret Russell, editor-in-chief of Elle Décor.
Oldham has a furniture and accessories line with La-Z-Boy and Adler is known for his signature vibrant colors and shapes, while Wearstler's interiors have included the Viceroy hotel resorts and others.
"Top Design" contestants, ages 23 to 48, engage in a series of design challenges ranging from creating an office space and a bedroom to a total dream house. The winner will be selected as the result of weekly elimination rounds.
The Pacific Design Center serves as the backdrop for the hour-long show, which is produced in Los Angeles.
In addition to the magazine spread, the top designer will receive $100,000 from Lending Tree, a 2007 Acadia car from General Motors and a bid to enter a table design in Elle Décor's 2008 Dining by Design benefit for Design Industry Foundation Fighting Aids.
