Signature to open China warehouse
Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, March 11, 2007
Cerritos, Calif. — Signature Home Furnishings is building a warehouse in southern China that will hold about 300 containers and is expected to begin shipping June 1.
The company, which will show at this month's High Point Market, also is launching a quick-ship mixed container program for its line of bedroom, home office and home entertainment product.
Goods will be shipped within as little as 24 hours of order, arriving at the retailer's door in 30 to 35 days.
"We have been missing a lot of business because we haven't had the ability to do that," said Raymond Carringer, senior vice president of sales.
The warehouse is in Zhongshan, south of Guangzhou and southwest of Shenzhen, and is within driving distance of several Signature source factories in the region, he said.
The company already does container-direct business with large accounts, and also ships from a 300-container warehouse in Southern California.
The China warehouse will help Signature serve smaller dealers that don't want to order full containers of a single product, Carringer said. Retailers can save at least 20% on the cost of goods shipped from China compared with less-than-truckload shipments from the U.S. warehouse.
The company aims to double its estimated $40 million to $50 million in annual sales over the next three years. Combined with new product and a growing sales force, Carringer is optimistic the company will achieve that goal.
He said the Southern California facility will continue to handle fill-in orders for accounts that need products in less than 10 days.
