Gosselin: Company grew from a car-shaped bed
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 11, 2007
Pompano Beach, Fla. — Upon his retirement as Gautier USA's CEO, Jose Gosselin offered this statement:
"In 1982 a friend of mine showed me a car bed in PVC sold by the French manufacturer Gautier, and the idea came to us to import this bed to the United States. We soon received our first 20-foot container, and I drove a little truck to sell these beds, in the evenings after my day job, to my first clients. Among them were El Dorado and La Canastilla Cuba.
"I incorporated under the name JERSA, which became a subsidiary of Gautier France a few years later. The company kept growing and we had to move four times to accommodate our warehouse expansion.
"Now Gautier USA has a large catalog and not only sells our famous car bed — although a different one that the one sold in the '80s — but also juvenile and adult bedrooms, entertainment units, living rooms, closet systems and hotel lines.
"After 24 years, Gautier USA now sells to major chain stores in the U.S.
"All this hard work to bring this company where it is now has taken a toll on me, and I felt it was time to leave to see other horizons and enjoy a more relaxed life. I am happy to say that I really enjoyed all these years, the bad ones and the good ones, the friendships developed with some of my clients, and the support of my employees, whom I consider more like family members."
