Melrose Park, Ill. — Willard L. Shonfeld, 75, is retiring as chairman of the board of The Handy Kenlin Group, a 109-year-old family-owned manufacturer of products for the furniture industry.
The company's board has named Michael L. Baritz chairman and CEO and Kenneth P. Shonfeld president and chief operating officer.
Bill Shonfeld joined the company, then known as Handy Button Machine Corp., in 1960. He is married to Marilyn Perlman Shonfeld, granddaughter of the company's founder, Morris Perlman, and daughter of Joseph Perlman, a late chairman of the company.
Baritz joined Handy's sales department in 1977 and was named president and CEO in 2001.
"The third generation leaders of our company took the company into a new era and new markets as a global sourcing company," said Baritz. "Bill Shonfeld is principally responsible for turning this vision into reality. Global marketing at its foundation is reaching out to people as human beings."
