Alexander to direct Cantrex regional store networks

Michael J. Knell -- Furniture Today, March 25, 2007

Canadian buying group veteran Rob Alexander has been named regional retail network director for the Ontario, Western and Atlantic Canada division of Cantrex Group, a new position.

He will be responsible for the division's furniture import programs; the Furniture Plus, Mattress World and other store networks; and new business development.

Until late last year, Alexander was vice president of logistics and IT for Mega Group, Canada's other major furniture buying and marketing group

At Cantrex, he reports to Peter Studnicki, vice president of furniture, appliances and bedding.

"Rob Alexander has more than 20 years experience in sales and marketing in the areas of retail trade, distribution and buying groups," Studnicki said. "Especially knowledgeable in the furniture and appliance sectors, he will bring Cantrex members his broadly based leadership skills in strategic planning and business management, coupled with a sense of innovation and dynamic thinking."

He will be based at Cantrex's offices in Vaughan.

Cantrex also has realigned the management team working under Alexander.

Earle Leard has been assigned responsibility for the Furniture Plus banner, the Club 3000 Atlantic network, and for developing Cantrex's new import division.

Christine Buckman is responsible for the Mattress World banner as well as Cantrex affiliates and clubs in Ontario.

Brian Mercer has been named business development manager for Ontario. This will provide additional support to members in that key province as Mercer teams up with Vance Privitera, Studnicki said.

Jim Mahoney remains purchasing and network director for household appliances.
