Wahlquist Management taps 2 for new posts

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 25, 2007

Promotions company Wahlquist Management has expanded its corporate operations with two new positions, hiring Jim Smiechewicz as new vice president of sales and promoting Susan Bankston to director of event operations.

Both report to Wanda Noble, executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Smiechewicz, a 25-year industry veteran, most recently was Midwest regional manager for Bassett Furniture. Before joining Bassett in 1988, he was a manufacturer's representative and managed furniture stores.

At Wahlquist, he will be responsible for sales throughout the United States.

Bankston has been with Wahlquist for more than six years as an event manager. She has worked in the industry for more than 30 years, starting as a sales associate and moving into retail management. She joined Wahlquist after the company held an event at her furniture store.

President and CEO Clay Wahlquist said the new positions were created to handle the company's expanding business.

"We are continually hiring executives to manage our phenomenal growth. For the past 14 years, Wahlquist Management has been known primarily for conducting fee events only. Not only are we continuing in this successful area of the industry, we are now making bold moves in the equity buyout arena," he said.
