Help1Up breakfast event set for March 29
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 25, 2007
High Point — Help1Up, a home furnishings industry charitable organization that provides basic furnishings to people in need, is holding a launch gala during the High Point Market for all registered market attendees.
The breakfast event is set for Thursday, March 29, from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. in Ballroom A on the 11th floor of the International Home Furnishings Center's Green wing.
At the gala, Help1Up's leaders will explain why the industry has launched the organization, which is administered by the nonprofit National Furniture Banks Assn. They will tell how Help1Up's free furniture removal service works, and how the group aims to increase sales of new furniture, protect the environment, and provide used furniture to more than 100,000 families in need each year.
In addition, the event will feature the first-ever National Furniture Banks Assn. awards presentation, recognizing a retailer, a manufacturer and a "helping hero" of the year. The NFBA also will honor the Help1Up founders, industry sponsors and endorsing associations.
Help1Up provides furnishings to battered women and children, working families struggling to stay above the poverty line, and victims of natural disasters.
Its motto is, "No child in America should have to sleep on the floor."
Pre-registration is not required for the breakfast.
For more information on the event or on Help1Up, contact Don Lawrence, NFBA executive director, by phone at (800) 576-0774 or by e-mail at dlawrence@help1up.
