Card gives marketgoers discounts at area businesses

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 26, 2007

Those attending this week's market here can enjoy discounts on area goods and services through a new Merchant Passport from the High Point Market Authority.

The card features special offers and discounts at stores in High Point's Oak Hollow Mall, and from more than 80 merchants and service businesses in the region.

"We've expanded the program that Oak Hollow Mall began several markets ago," said Tammy Covington Nagem, vice president of operations for the Market Authority. "We've worked with chamber of commerce members in High Point, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Archdale, Thomasville and Kernersville to produce a comprehensive and valuable package for our market visitors."

Most stores and restaurants at Oak Hollow Mall are participating with a range of special offers, including percentage-off or free items. Oak Hollow, which is a market shuttle ride from downtown High Point, features more than 100 stores, 20 eateries, and a seven-screen cinema.

Special offers on catering, photography, staffing and consulting services from area businesses also are included on the discount card, as well as discounts at local restaurants, salons, shops and more.

"The new Merchant Passport is a wonderful expansion of Oak Hollow Mall's 'Market to Mall Discount Card'," said Shannon Davis, marketing director at the mall. "We are very proud to represent the majority of merchants in High Point, and believe this new program will benefit marketgoers and retailers in the Piedmont."

Tom Dayvault, president and chief executive of the High Point Chamber of Commerce, said it's important that market guests feel welcomed when they come to the city.

"This is the furniture industry's hometown," he said. "Our members eagerly became part of this discount card program so that everyone involved with market would know how special they are to our community. It's our way of saying 'thank you' to all the market guests."

The Merchant Passport can be picked up by registered market attendees at a number of distribution points throughout market, including:

  • Area hotels.

  • Market buildings.

  • The Market Authority information booths in the Transportation Terminal, at the corner of Commerce and Main, and at PTI Airport.

The card lists all participating merchants, with contact information. Many participating merchants identify themselves with Merchant Passport signage. Marketgoers need only show their card to receive the discounts, which will be offered throughout market week.
