High Point — Storis Management Systems, a supplier of computer software to big-ticket retailers of all sizes, is demonstrating at market here the latest version of its Windows-based operating system, Vision R8. The version is called 8.3.
"8.3 is another indication of our strong commitment to delivering the functionality requested by our customers, while offering technology that gives our users a competitive edge," said Chief Operating Officer Doug Culmore.
Storis said 8.3 offers a medley of enhancements, including a more intuitive and consistent structure, enhanced "smart" menus, a fully integrated shopping cart in its customer order entry module, improved regional and district distribution capabilities, a better Vendor Performance Report, and new WiFi hand-held bar code capabilities.
The new look and overall structure of 8.3 maximizes screen display of information retailers need to run an efficient business, the company said, with the smart menus giving them less of what they don't need.
The shopping cart feature replaces the previous method of entering and maintaining sales quotes, and is easier and more flexible, Storis said.
Details of other enhancement include:
-
The regional and district processing feature allows retailers to create a list of assigned locations for an employee, or create districts and regions and assign stores and distribution centers to those districts and regions.
-
The Vendor Performance Report tracks whether suppliers are delivering product by the acknowledged date. The report also displays GMROI, sales history, purchasing, inventory and turns, and analyzes what vendors are doing to help the retailer meet its needs.
-
The Customer Lookup module now performs Google or White Pages name searches for Canadian and well as U.S. phone numbers.
-
Users can now customize printout forms for delivery tickets, customer pickup tickets, credit memos and transfers. Coming soon are customizable purchase orders and credit card slip receipts.
-
The hand-held bar code module now accommodates the new generations of WiFi scanners, allowing completely wireless data transmission, while remaining fully compatible with older scanning devices. Also, the user interface has been redesigned with a more modern and intuitive screen presentation for more efficient processing.
Otsuka's Furniture and Appliances in Kapaa, Hawaii was the beta site for 8.3.
Storis is exhibiting in the Retail Resource Center, on the 12th floor of the International Home Furnishings Center's Main wing.
