American Leather mixing leather, fabric in Boutique

Susan M. Andrews -- Furniture Today, March 25, 2007

American Leather is expanding its reach into fabric and traditional looks with a collection called Boutique, debuting at this week's market here.

Boutique is a series of nine styles that can be mixed and matched with various leathers and fabrics, including 21 new fabrics selected from seven mills to complement the leather collection. The high-end fabrics range from chenille to mohair to epingle constructions.

Customers will select leather for the frame's outback and arms, then choose from the Boutique fabric collection for the seat and back cushions.

A new designer for American Leather, Rob Jones, has designed some of the frames in the Boutique collection. The company's in-house design team also worked on Boutique.

Although American Leather has always featured an extensive range of Ultrasuede and has a division called American Upholstery, which focuses on microdenier fabrics, it said its dealers and potential new customers were asking for more fabric and more traditional looks.

"We have an incredibly loyal customer base that wants to do everything they can to expand their business with American Leather because of our quality, speed of delivery, customer service and outstanding reputation," said Bruce Birnbach, the company's president.

"These same customers, as well as other prospects, have requested we expand our product offering into fabric, as well as traditional. In listening, we have combined these two categories to satisfy this demand," he said. "
