Slumberland rolling out in-store credit kiosks

Herndon, Va. — Slumberland Furniture is planning to roll out Showroom Technology's retail kiosk system this quarter.

Among other tasks, the kiosks will handle credit applications.

A Top 100 furniture store based here, Slumberland also is using Wells Fargo Financial Retail Services as its private-label credit lender. The three companies are collaborating to offer promotional credit to consumers via the kiosks.

In addition to credit applications, the kiosks also will let consumers in the 105-store Slumberland browse furniture, and search and receive store-based promotions. The kiosks also will advertise and promote using full motion video.

"We believe customers will love the increased speed and ease of applying for financing," said Jamie Page, director of information technology at Slumberland.

Showroom Technology and Wells Fargo have created a secure data communications link that allows retailers to offer shoppers self-service credit applications. For advertising, the kiosks can be loaded with timed, scheduled image-based promotions displayed on large LCD color monitors.

Another Showroom Technology kiosk program at Belfort Furniture in Rockville, Md., was cited by Summit Research, a research and analytic firm in the kiosk industry, in its 2007 Retail Kiosk Industry Report. The firm gave the kiosk a favorable evaluation for its electronic credit application process.

The SHOW/PRO kiosk at Belfort is integrated with CitiFinancial's private-label credit service.
