In the moment

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 25, 2007

Sleek, sexy, chic. Today's contemporary furniture is neither stuffy nor grandfatherly. Some retailers say their electronics are outselling furniture because new TVs and personal electronics are more hip and stylish. The sharp lines and innovative shapes of contemporary designs can bring back the excitement. The look is cleaner — fewer carvings and more geometric shaping. The finish can give the piece more versatility with either a distressed, low-sheen coat or a clean, shiny appearance.
