Fresh Americana

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 25, 2007

Classic Americana looks get refreshed this market with a touch of modern. Premier updates a traditional roll-arm stationary sectional with a plaid cover, creating a comfortable, family-oriented piece that's as comfortable as a flannel shirt. Lodge leather gets an updated treatment as a home theater setup by Leathercraft, while Hekman uses an X-back motif to inject new design elements into old-fashioned heartland looks.

  1. OLD HICKORY TANNERY
    Market Square 314
The traditional hand-tufted wingback chair gets a makeover with hair-on-hide side panels and accent pillow.

  2. HEKMAN
    200 N. Hamilton S-107
Mountain Retreat takes a sophisticated approach to lodge, making it at home in a mountain resort or summer home. This armoire shows off an X motif.

  3. CRAFTMASTER FURNITURE
    Furniture Plaza 210
This beefy, three-over-three pub back sofa enhanced with nailheads and turned wood feet is among the new looks from Craftmaster's six-month-old imported stationary leather line.

  4. STICKLEY
    225 N. Elm St.
Stickley has revived a china cabinet (circa 1910) this market in solid quarter-sawn white oak. The piece features traditional craftsmanship like tongue-and-groove and pinned mortise-and-tenon joinery.

  5. LEATHERCRAFT
    117 N. Hamilton St.
Home theater gets a casual lodge spin in vintage leather. Other features include large roll arms, loose pillow-back cushions and oversized brass nailheads. With motorized seating units, $4,995.

  6. CHANDLER 4 CORNERS
    Suites at Market Square G-1212
Vermont designer Laura Megroz pays tribute to man's best friend in this whimsical hooked rug called Sea Dog. Made in India of New Zealand wool. $95 in a 2 by 3.

  7. PREMIER FURNITURE
    National Furniture Mart 501
Bramsley, a liberally stuffed stationary sectional, marries leather and plaid for traditional old-fashioned comfort.

  8. HOOKER FURNITURE
    IHFC W-1047
Hooker adds a new roll-top desk-hutch combo to Waverly Place. The unit features a new Antique Black finish with a rub through to the cherry and other wood surfaces to create the look of a worn antique.

  9. NICHOLS & STONE
    310 N. Hamilton
Nichols & Stone's Village, in solid birch, offers country style with a wide variety of finishes and antiquing options that can move the group more casual or sophisticated.

  10. VILLAGEOIS

Villageois puts a new twist on Mission furniture by offering its bedroom and occasional pieces not just in this Classic Medium finish, but also in Candleglow and Brandy Wine finishes.

  11. WEST BROS.
    Hamilton Market 209
West Bros. Furniture blends modern and classic motifs in this bedroom in solid maple. The group also has a campaign spirit with its X-shaped legs and panel treatments on the bed.
