Highlights from the spring High Point Market

Norwalk

Candice Olson's Maxine sofa sports a short, flirty miniskirt accented with nailheads at the pleats.

Habersham

The Willow tea table was a hit at market thanks to its unusual shape and hand-painted motifs. The piece also is available in brown and red tones.

Italmond

Multiple intersecting cross stretchers are a key feature in this classic sofa from Italmond.

Tradewins

Retailers looking for a nifty new idea responded to the Jamestown Small Space Essentials collection this market. The table features a fold-up rack mechanism that slides the entire unit into the hutch when the leaves are removed. In a black Tuscan finish.

Kindel

Kindel takes inspiration from the East for its Knowledge cabinet, hand painted in Michigan.

Loloi

Loloi's new Hayworth collection is hand tufted in India of New Zealand blend wool in traditional designs. $399 in 5 by 8.

Pearson

This square cocktail ottoman drew attention with its tight low seat, decorative cording and a tall kick pleat skirt.

C.R. Laine

Known primarily for its fabric collection, C.R. Laine was pleased with retailers' response to Porter, an updated wingchair with a loose back treatment — part of a 15-piece leather launch.

Shermag

The Fly Square ottoman, designed by Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz for Metropolitan Home by Shermag, shines in a faux silk cover and brushed stainless steel finish.

BDI

BDI had a hit with the Luxx entertainment console, featuring a high-gloss white finish. The tinted black glass hides components, but doesn't interfere with the infrared signals of DVD and stereo remotes.

Hammary

The Radia cocktail table has a geometric-inspired design. Its contemporary styling, which incorporates the shapes of a circle and square, was a hit with buyers this market.

Nourison

Nourison's Liz Claiborne Home Radiant Impressions collection is machine woven of New Zealand wool and features a contemporary interpretation of floral design. $599 in 5 by 8.

Durham Furniture

Chesley Classics from Durham was a strong performer with its relaxed traditional designs. This triple dresser has 12 drawers, while the mansion mirror mimics the arched headboard of the master bed.

Powell Co.

This four-drawer chest is part of Powell Co.'s Masterpiece collection. Buyers responded to traditional styling and hand-painted motifs this market.

Vaughan-Bassett

American Farmhouse was Vaughan-Bassett's biggest introduction in several years. The group, seen with the poster bed and sweater chest, comes in the Beeswax Irish Pine finish shown here and three optional finishes.

Klaussner

Klaussner won praise for Rossi, an Andrew Gibson design from its higher-end Distinctions line. The Italian leather frame features a multi-scalloped back with down cushioning and eight-way hand-tied construction. Domestically made, it's $2,199 retail.

Seabrook Classics

Seabrook Classics received plenty of dealer attention for its new Drayton Hall buffet. It is shown here in a Victorian white finish with a palm green back panel.

Sligh

This innovative entertainment console includes center-hinged doors that allow easy access to components.

Bernhardt Furniture

The Campeachy chair and ottoman is part of the new Smithsonian collection. Thomas Jefferson owned the original chair, made out of goatskin and wood from Campeche, Mexico.

Bentbrook Furniture

Christine, a medley of fabric and burgundy leather on a three-over-three silhouette, was a hit for Bentbrook in its High Point debut.

Young America

This twin spindle bed and wall system were a strong part of Young America's new launch, GenAmerica. The wall, in a Classic Cherry finish, is shown with a TV stand, but also could be used with a student desk for a home office feel.

Francesco Molon

Measuring 98.5 inches wide by 50 inches deep, the Presidential Desk from Francesco Molon defines opulent. Details include fine marquetry crafted with inlays of burl, rosewood, ebony and maple woods, gold and silver leaf details, a leather top and hammered brass accents.

American Leather

The St. James seating group, designed by Rob Jones for American Leather's new Boutique collection, showcases an imported epingle fabric called Feline on the seat and back cushions, complemented by Turnberry leather in a harvest color. Approximate retail for the chair is $5,500; the ottoman is $1,400.

Peters-Revington

This console is one of 23 new occasional pieces launched this market by Peters-Revington and the CR Home family of furniture companies. Part of the InColor accent program, it ties in with upholstery fabrics offered by sister company Cochrane. The orange finish seen here is one of 13 bright new color options offered in the program.

Tomlinson/Erwin-Lambeth

A tarnished silver finish and a Medusa plaque on two sides, along with four silvery tassels, shine on a Greek-style bench by design team Darren Godbee and Chad Welch for Tomlinson/Erwin-Lambeth. As shown in a tapestry chenille with black velvet bolsters, the retail price is $24,950.

Magnussen Home

This cocktail table is part of the Nevan collection. Made with birch solids and veneers, it has glass shelves and three pie-shaped sections on casters that can be bunched in a perfect circle or separated. The piece is seen here in an ebony finish.

Butler Specialty

This book table is part of Butler Specialty's Masterpiece collection. Made with cherry veneers and hardwood solids, it has a suggested retail of $199.

Global Furniture USA

Gotham was a popular launch for Global Furniture USA. The headboard features top-grain leather, while the cases sport contemporary stainless steel hardware. The wood is available in four finish colors (wenge, cherry, mahogany and oak) with either a matte or high-gloss finish.

Flexsteel

Flexsteel uses leather strapping on the arms back of this campaign chair and ottoman from its Wrangler brand.

Franklin Corp.

Franklin's motion frames won over buyers with a gaggle of gadgets. This winning polyester velvet model features overhead lighting, a center console table and hidden storage in the arms and bottom drawer

Palecek

Eighteenth-century elegance is recalled in this accent chair from the National Geographic Italian Collection. It combines a painted cheetah leather seat with a cane inset back for a fluid, neoclassic statement. Retail, $1,576.

Ultimate Accents

The Cebu shell chest by Ultimate Accents was a hit with buyers thanks to its use of mixed-media elements, including Capiz and other decorative shells. The three-drawer chest has a suggested retail of $899.

Pulaski

Pulaski introduced five bedrooms this market, with this San Mateo bed leading the way. The piece has Tuscan roots, but with additional weight and curves. The posts have a thick, hexagonal shape, and the footboard has exaggerated thickness.

Alfonso Marina

The fine carvings and inlay marquetry of the Altamira buffet drew high-end buyers. The four-door piece is 101 inches long.

Lorna Dewey of London

Cathedral looks continue surfacing, as seen on the windows of this successful china cabinet from Lorna Dewey of London. The cabinet also is available with solid-wood doors, and a wide center portion can be adjusted for flat panel TVs. The crown and the top come from single pieces of timber.

Safavieh

The Bergama collection features reproductions of antique rugs from Safavieh's private collection of Peshawar rugs. Hand tufted, $795 in 6 by 9.

Stickley

Stickley had a winner this market with the Indio chair, featuring sweeping curves and dramatic bent cherry trim.

Banyan Trading

"Green" goods were more popular this market, and this Alder Creek bench from Banyan Trading Co. uses sustainable sheesham in a water-based Cognac lacquer.

Johnston Casuals

Johnston Casuals made an eye-catching classic-contemporary statement with its Williamsburg dining set, in steel with olive green fabric on the seats.

Ficks Reed

Kuala No. 557, a console cabinet shown in umberwood with wicker trim, accommodates a 60-inch television set plus components.

TRS

Covered in a caramel shade of waxed leather, this sofa from upscale producer TRS Furniture features a transitional silhouette tempered by back pleats and decorative buttons to soften the look. The graceful flare of the arms is repeated in the back, making it attractive from every angle. Retail as shown is $7,500.

J.D. Young

The Elephant lamp table incorporates seven unique veneers in the shape of elephants with uplifted trunks, a sign of good luck.

A.R.T. Furniture

This leather sleigh bed is part of the Old World collection. The group features the highest level of execution the company has ever done with a higher sheen, custom hardware and cases with elaborate carvings.

Riverside

This innovative, patent-pending laptop cocktail table, in two finish choices, did well for Riverside. A portion of the tabletop glides out, serving as a desktop surface for the laptop. A power port is located in the storage space below the tabletop.

Councill

Councill scored with the Chester sofa, designed by John Black. A study in modern simplicity, the sofa features deep diamond tufting inspired by a classic 19th-century chesterfield. Other details include a double row of nailhead trim, smooth seat, square tapered legs and brass casters.

Koinor

Ultra-modern styling took wing with Diva, outfitted with adjustable ratchet arms and back in lavender leather.

Drexel Heritage

This sofa from Drexel, in a cream corduroy pinstripe with contrasting pillows, would be at home in an urban loft or a restored farmhouse.

Ello Furniture

Ello successfully revamped its Pacifica collection from October, adding frosted glass to this bedroom collection and a new entertainment center. The collection is available in 11 wood finishes.

Copeland Furniture

This adjustable peg recliner, part of the from Frank Lloyd Wright line, was well received. Based on a piece at the Dana-Thomas House in Springfield, Ill., it is available in natural quartersawn white oak or cherry, with two finish options on each.

Aspenhome

Aspenhome had a hit with its additions to the Weekender group. This bow-front chesser draws upon 17th-century Irish antiques, but includes a hidden jewelry drawer.

Antique Express

This cabinet drew attention for its modern updating of a centuries-old Northern Chinese design. Part of the Hu Tong line, it has a polished stainless steel exterior and a suggested retail of about $8,000.

Marge Carson

A big hit for Marge Carson this market was this platform bed with padded leather headboard and intricately carved pediment. The Havana finish is highlighted with gold leafing.

Kincaid

The Essex sofa, a camelback with flare arms, features a green "bubble yarn" fabric called Hitch from Valdese Weavers, accented by two pillows in Richloom's Ornithology pattern and a silk plaid called Singapore from Braemore. As shown, the retail is $1,699.

Corsican

The Road Course bed comes in 40 different finishes. It is shown here in a bright fire engine red finish. Suggested retail for the twin-sized version is $1,925.

McKinley Leather

Shape won the day for McKinley Leather's No. 2261, a transitional chair and ottoman with trim, flared arms and wide seat. It is dressed in aniline plus pigment leather from Leather Miracles for a two-tone taupe contrast.

Cochrane Furniture

The Perimeter collection was a hit for Cochrane. The traditional maple collection includes this formal dining set as well as a more casual semi-oval table and chairs. The pieces are shown in a medium finish, but can be ordered in any Cochrane finish.

Hooker Furniture

The midsized Studio 40 wall system features a back panel for mounting a flat-panel television.

Palliser

Perfect for playing videogames or watching movies, the Poet chair/ottoman set is available with optional home theater seating technology; speakers can be built into the headrest and "base shakers" attached to the seat for an enhanced home theater experience.

Classic Flame/Twin Star

The Montebello electric fireplace by Classic Flame was a hit with buyers this market. It has a mahogany finish with major distressing, a beveled top and base and raised center and side panels.

Violino

The Hong Kong-based company drew raves in its High Point debut, particularly for Model No. 5114, a two-piece contemporary design enhanced with tufted seating and American flair.

Bush

In traditional cherry, Bush's Expandable Wall Collection served up a large-scale look that's more typical of higher-end home office resources. This setup was part of the biggest new product launch in the company's history.

Guy Chaddock & Co.

A rich, rust suede fabric from Advantage covers the inside back and bench seat of this dramatic Jacobean loveseat by Guy Chaddock & Co., along with an autumnal shade of leather that also serves as contrast welting. The suede and leather blend with an Old World tapestry in green, rust, gold and cream from Craftex Mills that is used on the throw pillows and outside of the frame. Approximate retail is $5,000.

Sumter Furniture

Hampton Roads was a strong introduction for Sumter Furniture with its cherry solids and rich, midtone finish. This canopy bed has twisted turnings on the posts and a high panel headboard.

Legacy Classic

Legacy Classic introduced dozens of new pieces this market, with this Cosmopolitan collection drawing lots of attention. The double-pedestal table and chairs blend elements of traditional and contemporary designs.

Taylor King

Based on a stool Martha Washington used for sewing, this chair from the Mount Vernon collection is covered in a red and white houndstooth check woven fabric and trimmed in cheerful matching fringe. Retail is $995.

Royal Patina

Royal Patina had a successful follow-up to its popular Andalucia collection this market with Caspian Way. The San Marco finish is heavily burnished with hand-painted panels on the footboard and headboard that carry over to the executive desk.

Sauder Woodworking

Sauder's popular Shaker Heights collection found another winner in this entertainment console.

Calligaris

This curio comes with a frosted curved glass front and clear glass shelves. The piece also is available in four veneered or lacquered finishes and a chrome or satin-finished steel base.

Universal

This Cottage View settee is part of the new Better Homes and Gardens collection. The upholstery is domestically made by Universal's Craftmaster division. With sofas retailing in the $899 to $999 price points, this collection drew a good response.

P.A.M.A.

Custom finisher P.A.M.A. did well with this Verona queen bed made of mahogany and shown in a Walnut Crackle finish with gold leaf accents. The Tuscany valley scenery on the headboard and footboard is hand painted by a P.A.M.A. artist. Customers can get the bed in any of 60 finishes and can supply their own photography for the painted scene.

Slate Vision

The Marico console table has a natural autumn-color slate top and torched pine legs. Retailing at $799, it is part of an expanded line of natural form tables.

Feizy

Feizy's Iota collection features tone-on-tone wood patterns tufted of wool and faux silk. Hand carving creates a textural effect. Made in India. $350 in 5 by 8.

Elite Leather

The Griffith Park contemporary sectional piqued buyers' interest with its inviting tonal contrast of leather and cotton blend.

Payne Street

Cathedral shapes take the stage on this china cabinet from Payne Street, which was a winner.

Charleston Forge

The Winston Console table has a tapered hammered leg, a steel-framed wood shelf and a glass top that showcases the metalwork on the piece. Available in multiple finishes, it has a suggested retail of $1,785.

Broyhill

The Art Deco-inspired Avenue entertainment unit features sliding doors that hide the television.

Harden Furniture

The No. 416 trunk stand is part of Harden Furniture's Tapestry line. The functionality of the piece appealed to buyers this market. It includes a top that opens and flips out to reveal a serving tray.

Thomas Hahn & Home

Manchester changed its name to Thomas Hahn & Home this market, coinciding with a fresh, new look. This ECO canopy bed, using solid FSC-certified rubberwood and water-based finishes, was well received by buyers.

Lee Inds.

A subtle, button-tufted diamond pattern adds interest to the inside back of Lee Inds.' Style 3006-03, a bench seat shown in Willis Blue velvet accented by pillows covered in Blossom Spa and McGee Camel. Retail as shown is $2,827.

Clayton Marcus

Designer B. Smith put some spice in this sofa from her Mosaic Treasures group of eclectic, world-influenced pieces. Sofas in the collection are targeted to retail for $1,299 to $1,999.

Lexington Home Brands

Lexington drew traffic with both its Liz Claiborne Home and Trump Home presentations. This Trump Home bar, with an Art Deco influence, is part of the contemporary Central Park collection, reflecting Trump's urban roots.

Kinwai

Kinwai is planning to double the size of its Chinese plant thanks to its growing sales. This contemporary sideboard was one of the pieces drawing attention this market.
