Kessler Inds. shutting doors
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 8, 2007
El Paso, Texas — Officials of Kessler Inds., a 47-year-old dining, occasional, metal bed and case goods resource based here, told sales staff at the just-concluded High Point Market that it will cease operations.
The company intends to take and ship orders through mid-April, said Jon Lamb, sales and marketing coordinator. Kessler officials have been pondering closing for months, he said.
Although the company's outdoor division had substantial growth in sales and profits in the past several years, it couldn't counter retail softness and declining sales in its interiors division, Lamb said.
Kessler entered the outdoor arena three years ago. The company, founded by Cal and Gerry Kessler, grew from an initial $350 investment into a multimillion-dollar company, Lamb said, adding it may sell some of its non-manufacturing assets.
