High Point — Karen McNeill-Harris, president of High Point public relations and marketing firm McNeill Communications, has been named executive director of the American Furniture Hall of Fame.
She succeeds Joanna C. Maitland, who retired in the fall.
McNeill-Harris, who continues in her role with McNeill Communications, will be responsible for developing new services with the Hall of Fame to promote greater understanding of the U.S. furniture industry and its history.
She will supervise the annual nomination and selection process for new members, and will manage communications efforts, including production of the organization's newsletter, videos, marketing materials and Web site.
She also has been charged with expanding the organization's services to colleges that offer home furnishings programs, and will handle planning for the yearly Awards Banquet.
"After a search process headed by Don Belgrad, CEO of Schnadig Corp., we felt Karen was the best candidate for the new executive director role," said Leroy Lail, president of the Hall of Fame board. "We are fortunate to have a person with her knowledge of the industry and with such a strong communications background heading our organization."
McNeill's company specializes in serving the home furnishings industry. She also has been president and chairman of WithIt, or Women in the Home Industries Today.
