DeCoro sets larger China plant
Joan Gunin -- Furniture Today, April 8, 2007
High Point — Upholstery manufacturer DeCoro is shifting production of its finished wood components into a new, larger facility in China.
Ground was broken last month on a 700,000-square-foot plant in the Daya Bay Economic Zone in Huizhou, outside Shenzhen. The plant is expected to open in late summer.
The new site for such finished wood pieces as legs and trim will replace DeCoro's current 250,000-square-foot facility. Plans for the current site have not been determined.
"The new factory will give us the capacity we need to meet all customer demands and continue to grow our business in the United States and worldwide," said DeCoro President and CEO Luca Ricci. "We already have the best modern equipment, but we simply needed more space."
The new locale also is closer to the company's 2 million-square-foot principal factory, opened near Shenzhen in 2003.
Executive Vice President Heath Corso said, "We are taking the steps required to support our growth, particularly the strong demand we have experienced for traditional styles with wood accents. The new factory will allow us to ship all segments of our product offering faster and more consistently."
