Bush to close small factory in New York
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 15, 2007
Jamestown, N.Y. — Bush Inds., a major ready-to-assemble furniture producer, said it will close a small factory in Little Valley, N.Y., and shift production to its Jamestown plant.
The company said the Little Valley facility, which manufactures and finishes specialty parts, has long been a satellite operation for Jamestown. About half the factory's 100 employees will be offered positions in Jamestown.
"This is a continuation of our strategy that requires we leverage both the proven manufacturing capability of our domestic operations and the economies available to us through our global sourcing," James Sherbert, president and CEO.
The Little Valley closure is the third consolidation of the company's manufacturing facilities in recent months. Earlier this year, Bush moved two manufacturing departments at its Erie, Pa., facility to Jamestown, and last fall the company closed a factory in Tijuana, Mexico.
Bush continues to operate factories in China and Germany.
