Atlanta — Havertys reported its March sales at $66.1 million, down 11.6% from a year earlier, with same-store sales falling 13.5%.
For the first quarter, the Top 100 Atlanta-based store chain said sales of $191.1 million were down 8.6% while same-store business declined 10.4%.
"Our March sales were indicative of the persistent weakness in the retail furniture sector," said Clarence H. Smith, president and CEO. "Havertys has endured many challenging cycles over its 122-year history, and as we have in past difficult times, we continue to sharpen our focus on those aspects of the business within our control."
The company has 121 stores in 17 states in the South and Midwest.
