Craftmaster promotes Calcagne

Gary Evans -- Furniture Today, April 30, 2007

Roy Calcagne has been named CEO of Craftmaster Furniture, succeeding CEO and owner Steve Lackey.

Lackey will remain as a consultant and will work on projects for Lacquer Craft, the China-based parent company of Craftmaster, Legacy Classic Furniture and Universal Furniture.

Calcagne was named president of Craftmaster a year ago when Lacquer Craft purchased the company. He reports to Samuel Kuo, Lacquer Craft's chairman.

Calcagne, who has worked in the industry for 26 years, joined Universal in 2003 as senior vice president of the upholstery division.

He was previously vice president of upholstery merchandising for Broyhill and vice president of sales for Joan Fabrics.

Kuo said that with Lackey's extensive background in upholstery manufacturing, "We are excited to have his input and guidance on future projects." He said Lacquer Craft purchased Craftmaster last year to expand its upholstery business, and "we are looking forward to growing the business significantly in the near future."

Craftmaster will offer domestically produced upholstery and also will be able to take advantage of Lacquer Craft's sourcing capabilities in China. The company said this will further enhance the value of the Craftmaster product line, which includes 140 sofa styles in the $699 to $999 retail price range, with a full custom-order program with more than 1,000 fabric choices.
