Fairfield, N.J. — Fabric industry veteran Burt Kaplan is joining Diversitex/Kingsway in an advisory role for product development, merchandising and marketing.
Kaplan, who has been in the textile industry for over 30 years, was named president in 2004 of Portfolio Textiles, the piece goods division of Kravet. Earlier, he was with Artisan Home Fashions, Cone Jacquards, Richloom and Joan Fabrics.
Diversitex, best known for its nature-inspired plain textures, develops home furnishings products for manufacturers and retailers. The company sources globally and has an office in China and a distribution center in South Carolina. Its recently acquired print division, Kingsway, produces products for outdoor and residential markets.
Marc Bergman, senior vice president of Diversitex/Kingsway, said, "We want to build our brand around quality products with innovative styling and superior customer service that will differentiate us from the competition."
Kaplan said he looks forward to the new endeavor.
"This is a young company and the principals, Marc Bergman and Bill Summers, are young and aggressive, without preconceived ideas about the industry," said Kaplan. "They built this company quickly, and it's well-balanced with good financial resources."
