Let's celebrate green-letter day

Ray Allegrezza, Editor in Chief -- Furniture Today, May 14, 2007

Today is a red-letter day for Furniture/Today, and it's also a green-letter day because it marks the launch of Green, our first online-only publication, devoted to the rapidly growing number of eco-friendly initiatives in home furnishings.

If you've been keeping tabs on the green market, you know that sustainability is anything but a fad or merely the latest buzz. For more and more consumers, here and abroad, sustainability is becoming a way of life.

At the spring High Point Market, you couldn't help but notice the groundswell of exhibitors who were responding to that growing consumer demand with a myriad of eco-friendly products or services.

Merchandise Mart Properties Inc., partnering with the Sustainable Furniture Council, a group that Furniture/Today proudly supports, created a GREENStyle Pavilion, designed to help marketgoers learn more about the importance of adopting sustainable practices in their businesses.

Furniture/Today sponsored a related GREENStyle party, and we're committed to supporting the industry's eco-friendly efforts in a more sustainable way. So, we did what we do whenever we identify a burgeoning new category in our marketplace: We commit time, people and resources and create a highly focused publication to serve that segment.

That's what we've done with SoHo Today for the small office/home office market, Kids Today for the juvenile market, Relish for the high-end market, and now with Green. All these targeted supplements are full of news, analysis, trend reports, updates on new products, profiles of leading retailers and suppliers, and much more.

Green breaks new ground in that it's our first purely digital product. Not one tree came down so that we could put Green on your computer screen!

I hope you enjoy it. On Green's last page, we've added a list of hot links so you can get more information about many of the companies and products featured in the first issue. As always, our goal is to bring you information that helps you understand and grow your business. And, as always, I'm eager to hear from you!
