By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, May 14, 2007
High Point — Establishing clear supply chain strategies for 2008 will be the focus of the American Home Furnishings Alliance's second Global Supply Chain Management Conference.
The event will take place July 12–14 at the Embassy Suites Kingston Plantation in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and is open to all industry manufacturers, retailers and suppliers.
Kurt Cavano, chairman and CEO of TradeCard, will open the conference with a talk on best practices for strategic sourcing, as well as the key advantages of product cost and customization. He'll also address "operational agility," the ability to rapidly identify the right suppliers.
Also on the bill:
-
International trade lawyer Robert Pisani will explain how the new wave of Customs enforcement initiatives have kept compliance issues at the forefront.
-
Norfolk Southern's Jeff Heller will give an update on capacity issues in the intermodal system. He'll offer strategies for addressing rail capacity constraints and provide an update on legislative issues.
-
North Carolina State University Professor Cecil Bozarth will describe strategies for positioning inventory in the supply chain.
-
Gene Winters, vice president of sales for Global Link Logistics, will talk about "next-generation supply chain solutions." He'll cover strategic use of less-than-container-load shipping; cost effectiveness of consolidating orders, reducing inventory and increasing procurement flexibility; and improving product visibility in transit.
Other topics will include the evolution of the specialized furniture carrier, the old home delivery model versus the new furniture consumer, West Coast concerns over port congestion, and labor, environmental and legislative issues.
The event includes an optional golf outing and two receptions.
Meeting registration is $350 for AHFA members and $450 for non-members, and $62 for the golf outing. Online registration and an agenda are online at www.ahfa.us. Click on the AHFA logo, then go to "events" and click on Global Supply Chain Management Conference.
