High Point considers Home Meridian incentives

High Point — The City Council here will consider approving $200,000 in incentives this week to help lure the corporate headquarters of Home Meridian International, parent of Pulaski and SLF, to High Point.
The incentives would help pay for upfitting expenses, including computers and other property and improvements. Home Meridian's move would add $1 million to the city's tax base, city officials said.
Home Meridian was formed by a merger last year. Pulaski has offices in Pulaski, Va., while SLF is based in Phoenix and also has operational offices at its High Point showroom in 220 Elm.
Home Meridian would lease its High Point headquarters offices, if it decides to locate in the city. The company is considering three other states and other central North Carolina locations, according to the High Point Economic Development Corp.
If it moves here, the company would transfer approximately 18 executives from out-of-state locations to High Point and create three new positions immediately. The average wage for the 21 jobs will be more than $100,000 per year, the release said. Additional locally hired jobs would be created over the next 18 months.
