CHFA to host membership meeting Jan. 9
December 11, 2013-- Furniture Today,
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — The Canadian Home Furnishings Alliance will hold its annual general meeting of its expanded membership immediately prior to the Canadian Home Furnishings Market here on Jan. 9.
The event is set for 9 a.m. in the Traders Lounge within the International Centre, where TCHFM will open for its annual four-day run two days later.
In August, CHFA merged with Furniture West, the Winnipeg, Manitoba-based furniture manufacturers association. The move was made in response to oft-repeated demands by many Canadian furniture resources that the number of industry associations must be reduced before they would consider joining.
There are now just two furniture industry groups in Canada, the CHFA and the Quebec Furniture Manufacturers Assn.
"Combining the resources of Furniture West and the CHFA will provide funding to improve existing benefits to members and deliver new programs," CHFA President Murray Vaughan told Furniture/Today at the time of the merger. "With a broader membership base, the newly created CHFA will be more attractive to potential new members.
"This will also allow for more equitable membership fees and generate incremental revenue and sponsorship dollars," he added. "Pooling resources will allow the organization to address common issues and at the same time raise the profile of the industry to government."
Since the merger, longtime CHFA Chairman Laine Reynolds, vice president of sales for upholstery specialist Superstyle, has remained in the role.
One of the more important items on the agenda will be the election of a new board of directors, which will include representation from western Canada.
Vaughan said an official meeting notice will be distributed in the near future to CHFA members. For more information about the meeting, contact Vaughan at (905) 677-6561 or by e-mail at email@example.com.
