Safavieh to launch first outdoor rugs for Ralph Lauren brand

Port Washington, N.Y. - Ralph Lauren Home will enter the outdoor rug category via high-end rug and home furnishings house Safavieh with a new collection to be previewed during High Point Market.
The collection will be on view at Safavieh's Historic Market Square showroom, Suite 120.
Initially, the collection will consist of 10 skus using a kilim flatweave technique and will be available at retail in the spring 2014, to be followed with an expanded collection scheduled for rollout later next year.
"Ralph Lauren pushed the envelope, creating a unique, high-end look in indoor-outdoor rugs that will bring unprecedented luxury to the category," said Arash Yaraghi, a Safavieh principal. "The result is a true hand-woven kilim flatweave using extremely soft polypropylene yarns that mimic wool in both the warp and weft of the rug."
Yaraghi added that it is "impossible" to distinguish between the new polypropylene rugs and wool kilims, making them marketable as both indoor and outdoor products. This was achievable because of the use of specially-enhanced polypropylene Safavieh used for some of the pieces, allowing for easy care and weather resistance.
Patterns for the collection were designed with layering in mind and include three bold patterns in a coordinating palette that offer a modern interpretation of two core Ralph Lauren lifestyles: the American West and the Coast.
The assortment is woven in India and available in standard sizes from 2-by-3-foot through 9-by-12 foot. The retail price for a 5-by-8 foot is $440.
Safavieh will host daily cocktail receptions at 4:30 p.m. at its showroom during the course of market, Oct. 19-23, in celebration of the new line. The company will also offer breakfast and lunch daily for it visiting customers.
