HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Serta International owner National Bedding Co. has acquired the Serta franchisee serving Quebec and its factory in St. Leonard from Barry and Scott Silverman, whose family has been operating the business since 1982.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
National Bedding said all 70 Serta Montreal employees will remain in their jobs, including management, and service to local retailers will continue without interruption. The Silverman family will also remain with the company for a short while to assist in the transition.
“We are excited for this opportunity,” said James Polark, chief financial officer for Serta International. “Our goal has always been to grow our retailers’ business, and this will continue to be the goal for us and our retail partners serviced by the Montreal plant.”
National Bedding owns 19 of the 24 U.S. Serta manufacturing plants and now owns two of the four Canadian Serta plants, including Star Bedding Products/Serta Toronto.
The company said in a statement that it isn’t seeking to acquire the remaining Canadian franchisees in Winnipeg and Vancouver.
