Kane's picks Gordon to fill merchandise manager post

Pinellas Park, Fla. — Top 100 store Kane's Furniture, based here, has named retail veteran Frank Gordon merchandise manager, a post that had been vacant for some time at the midpriced Florida chain.
He comes to the company from JP Products, a New York-based solid-wood furniture importer, where he was senior vice president of furniture sales from January 2006 to January 2007.
Before that, Gordon spent 19 years at Michigan retailer Art Van, beginning in 1986 as a bedding, recliner and occasional buyer. After three years, he became the company's upholstery buyer.
He left for about eight months to become part of the Rooms To Go start-up team, but returned to Art Van in 1991 and for 15 years headed its clearance centers.
At Kane's, Gordon reports to CEO Irwin Novack, who hailed him as a "true professional" who understands furniture retailing.
Gordon said, "I am looking forward to being back in retail merchandising. That is my first love and what I do best."
