How the list was compiled
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, June 24, 2007
High Point — High Point — Furniture/Today's exclusive report, Beyond the Top 100, pages 24–44, lists 100 independent furniture stores that are significant players in their respective markets.
This list is by no means comprehensive. Many more than the 100 furniture stores listed here are strong retailers within their communities. This survey does not rank companies. It does not repeat the "furniture stores to watch" list included in Furniture/Today's Survey of the Top 100 U.S. Furniture Stores, published in the May 28, 2007 issue, nor is it a continuation of the Top 100.
All sales figures are Furniture/Today estimates and are for total 2006 store sales, which may include revenues from the sale of products other than furniture, bedding and accessories, such as consumer electronics and appliances. Where possible, the percentage of sales from furniture, bedding and accessories is given. All sales figures and store counts are for the calendar year 2006.
Furniture/Today compiled this report by surveying independent retailers, researching business newspaper archives and speaking with furniture industry insiders. Information was gathered, compiled and analyzed by Senior Research Specialist Dana French, with assistance from Database Coordinator Cynthia Myers and Research Assistant Patrice Rahming.
