Rug vendors rolling out the choices

Rug introductions at the Atlanta Summer Rug Market, July 15-18, reflect the eclectic tastes of America. From romantic florals to rich classics to easy-living curves, rug resources will offer designs that enhance the current trends in home furnishings.

Classics

Classic Oriental rug motifs have been treasured for centuries. While maintaining respect for the past, today's interpretations are tuned into modern lifestyles. Colors are aligned with home furnishings trends and classic motifs are pared to essentials.

Prices are suggested retail for an approximate 5 by 8 size unless otherwise noted.

MOMENI

The Ladiq collection, inspired by Turkish antiques, is machine made using over-twisted yarns enhanced with abrash effects and hand-serged edges, under the Wools of New Zealand brand, $479.

NOURISON

This Persian design from the Summit Point collection, interpreted in a hand-hooked construction, brings a fresh face to a classic look. It's made in India of wool, $499.

SPHINX by ORIENTAL WEAVERS

The Sullivan design from the Bentley collection is hand tufted of dense, hand-spun wool yarn and finished with a luster wash for a rich, hand-knotted look, $799.

RIZZY RUGS

A star-burst effect emerges from the classic elements of this design from the Puria collection. Hand knotted in a mix of New Zealand blended and semi-worsted wool, it's $1,699 in a 6 by 9.

COURISTAN

Traditional motifs are reinterpreted in the modern mode in this rug from the Bauhaus collection. It's made on 14-color power looms of soft-touch, heat-set Courtron polypropylene with viscose faux silk highlights in 1.5 million-point construction, $299.

AMER RUGS

The Tuscan collection is made of hand-spun, hard-twist Ghazni wool, hand knotted in India in 9/9 quality, $2,699 in 8 by 10.

KARASTAN

This Sedona design is a fanfare of classic palmettes and vines. It's machine woven of Wools of New Zealand fiber, $899.

AMICI IMPORTS

The Kiaf design in the Pienza collection is hand knotted of wool in 14/14 construction. Made in Pakistan, $2,299 in 6 by 9.

JAIPUR RUGS

Poeme takes classical elements and rearranges them in new ways. Hand tufted in India of hand-spun New Zealand wool, $429.

Something different

Some rugs stand out because they defy all the traditional rules of design. These iconoclastic new offerings bring wit and edge to the rug market.

CHANDLER FOUR CORNERS

The Flexible Flyer motif is unmistakable and conjures up nostalgic images of winter fun. From Vermont designer Laura Megroz, it's hand hooked in India of New Zealand wool, $290 in a 30-inch by 96-inch runner.

JANELLE STYLE

Ella is the first design in the Lollipop collection of braided textured accent rugs for children. It's braided of polyester/cotton fabric and polypropylene yarns, $399.

HOMEFIRES

Lace Bouquet is a dreamy lavender design hand hooked in soft acrylic yarns. From the April Cornell collection, it's made in China, $399.

Curli Cues

Soft, gentle curves, whether inspired by classic or modern influences, blend easily with today's casual interiors.

HELLENIC

This overscaled Candice Olson design, inspired by a traditional fabric pattern, is hand tufted in 160-line construction of wool and silk, $799.

JAUNTY

The Estates collection features a wool pile, multi-textured construction, hand carved and hand tufted in India, $399.

RUGS AMERICA

The company enters the casual accent rug business with a group of washable rugs hand hooked in China, in acrylic with designs outlined in artificial silk, $25 in a 21-inch by 34-inch size.

THE RUG MARKET

The Outdoor/Indoor collection, hand hooked of nylon, resists water, mildew and fading, $260.

Floralsbloom

Variations on floral themes create a broad variety of moods in rug designs. This summer, buyers will see a mix of exuberant chintz-like bouquets, folkloric images and delicate stems and blossoms.

HAROUNIAN RUGS INTERNATIONAL

The Eden Park collection is hand tufted in China of wool with faux silk viscose highlights in a Nepalese-inspired design, $399.

HOMESPICE DÉCOR

Potted Flowers, designed by Deborah Dubina, uses a theme reminiscent of the hooked rug folk artists of 19th century America. Made in India, $159 in 2 by 3.

KAS

Wedgewood Morning Glory is from the Isabella collection. It's machine made in China of New Zealand wool with hand finishing, $399.

PEKING HANDICRAFT

Chelsea Garden pairs a classic chintz bouquet with a contemporary palette of red, peach and white flowers set against a brown background. Hand hooked in China, $270 in 4 by 6.

Walk on the Wild Side

The colors and images of the wild have been an endless source of inspiration for rug designers. After all, early man decorated his cave with animal skins.

SURYA: The Safari collection is inspired by animal skins, with a modern twist. Hand tufted in India of New Zealand wool, it's hand washed and hand finished, $449.

DYNAMIC RUGS

Fantasia is a kids and juniors collection, in camouflage motifs for boys, with styling by Posh Fashionation. It's hand tufted of wool, $300.

TRANS OCEAN

The Spello collection of indoor-outdoor area rugs, designed by Liora Manné, is hand tufted in China of polypropylene and modacrylic fibers. The Every Wear label guarantees easy care and weather-resistant qualities, $290.

Into the woods

The earthy tones of the forest floor, and images of leaves, twigs and bark, bring a somber, masculine look to the botanical design category.

FEIZY RUGS

Wood grains are the inspiration for the Iota collection from Feizy Home. It's hand tufted in India of wool and faux silk with multi-level textures, $350.

EBISONS HAROUNIAN

Subtle botanical motifs melt into a rich but subdued mahogany background in Turbo. Hand knotted of wool pile, $799 in 6 by 9.

MERIDA MERIDIAN

The Viewpont Dimensions collection features pattern-on-pattern rugs in tone-on-tone colors and cut-and-loop textures. Power-loomed in Massachusetts of New Zealand wool, $1,275 in 6 by 9.

SHAW LIVING

The Linville design in the Accents collection brings together a masculine geometric with a falling leaf pattern. Machine made in the United States, $199.

The many flavors of chocolate

Americans love chocolate in all its delicious shades, from white to dark. No wonder it's become the dominant color of the rug business.

CAPEL

Sweet William is a large-scale design based on an Art Nouveau motif. Machine woven in Belgium of acrylic blend, $399.

COLONIAL MILLS (CMI)

The Sunbraid collection is an indoor-outdoor CableLock braided textured line, made with soft polypropylene/polyester blend yarns that resist mildew, stains, fading and bleeding, $419.

828 INTERNATIONAL

This shadow-box design from the Laguna collection is power loomed of heat-set polypropylene for softness, easy care and affordability. Point-on-point construction with drop-stitch weaving provides a multi-dimensional quality, $299.

SAFAVIEH

The Bohemian collection is made of renewable organic hemp and aloe plied into ultra-soft yarns and vegetable dyes. Hand knotted in India, $595 in 6 by 9.

KANE CARPET

This Wilton-woven rug from the Central Park collection is a prime example of the relaxed contemporary trend. Eurolon polypropylene fiber in a yarn-shrunk-yarn system creates the effect of silk highlights. Made in Turkey, $349.
