By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, July 8, 2007
Atlanta — Havertys' June sales dipped 3.2% and same-store sales decreased 5.1%, an improvement from previous months in this second quarter.
The 122-store Top 100 company posted sales of $69.4 million for the month, compared with $71.7 million in June 2006.
Through the first six months, Havertys' sales decreased 10% to $378.2 million and same-store sales fell 11.6%.
"Our sales trends in June were stronger than those earlier in the quarter. However, as we cautioned last month, we still do not expect that the quarter results will be profitable," said Clarence Smith, president and CEO.
He said the retailer was able to keep its inventory "closely in check" during the quarter.
