Wynwood offers new mixed-product groups

By Jeff Linville -- Furniture Today, July 30, 2007

Importer Wynwood Furniture is offering multiple groups at the Las Vegas Market that will be part of mixed-container programs.

The company has offered mixed bedroom and home office lines before and will have three new programs after the market. Two will cover home office (desk sets and stand-alone writing desks) and two will be bedroom groups, the first step of a new mixable bedroom line.

Because Wynwood sources from more than one plant, retailers can't mix every collection in one container. However, when multiple groups come from the same place, it's simple to mix and match, the company said.

The company also is expanding its selection of similarly priced goods. Wynwood has a line of writing desks and home office pieces that are the same price regardless of style.

Andy Gillies, president and CEO, said the strategy behind the introductions comes from "the success we've had in packaging like products into a kind of your-choice model. We've done it successfully with bedroom, and we've done it with entertainment and home office products."

Such packages are good for retailers to promote and re-energize their business. It gives retailers choices to offer, and the like-item pricing makes shopping convenient for consumers.

New bedrooms at market will include a revamped Torrevella and the Arts & Crafts-inspired Sheridan Road, both from a facility in Vietnam.

Torrevella, a Wynwood classic for years, gets reborn into Puebla with new design touches and a warm, relaxed Mesa Pine finish. In addition to the silhouettes in Torrevella, Puebla includes a footboard bench. The queen bed, dresser and mirror will retail for $1,499.

The 11 bedroom pieces in Sheridan Road offer a fresh interpretation of Arts & Crafts, inspired by the design of one of the last Frank Lloyd Wright homes built in suburban Chicago. Touches include faux mortise-and-tenon joinery, applied grid-style fret work and extended tops. The Amber Cherry finish over cherry veneers is warm and inviting and is complemented by the glazed finish on the hardware.

For the fall High Point Market, Wynwood will add two more bedroom groups out of the same plant so that all four can be mixed together.

HomeWorks is the name of the new home office mixing program. Each collection offers eight or more pieces, such as executive desks, bookcases and filing cabinets. The fully stocked groups include Artisan, an Arts & Crafts group in Auburn Cherry; Kennett Square, a contemporary cherry group in a Dark Chocolate finish; Rue de Lyon, Wynwood's best selling Louis Philippe group in Cognac Cherry; and Shelby County, a dark, quartered-oak transitional group.

Like pieces will be priced the same, such as all 66-inch executive desks at $799 retail.

Wynwood is adding to its home office offerings with a new collection of writing desks. All styles are mixable with the new HomeWorks program. Each will feature a laptop-friendly desk with electrical outlets and a coordinating chair, with desks retailing for $499.

Also in Las Vegas, the company will show an expanded Tuxedo Park group, with new bedroom and dining pieces. A new finish, Dark Chocolate, will be shown. The queen bed, dresser and mirror are $1,299; table and four chairs is $799.

A new finish, Higby Hill, is offered on the Hampton Cove and Hartwick Pines collections. It's a darker, warm walnut tone, giving the cottage designs a more relaxed country feel, the company said.
