Klaussner to roll out new retail network
By Gary Evans -- Furniture Today, August 6, 2007
Asheboro, N.C. — Klaussner Home Furnishings said last week it is rolling out a new retail arm, squelching months of rumors that it was being sold to a Chinese company or to other domestic manufacturers.
The new Klaussnerhome network will start with four stores — two in Philadelphia, one in Hattiesburg, Miss., and one in Plano, Texas — converted from the company's Sofa Express and More units. The new stores, scheduled to open around Labor Day, will be the first in what the company expects will be a 100 store lineup by the end of 2009.
Klaussner CEO J.B. Davis said at the Las Vegas market last week the 38 other existing Sofa Express and More stores will stay open and will not conflict with the new stores, even though both formats may operate in the same markets. The Klaussnerhome showrooms will be about 25,000 square feet, about the same as the Sofa Express and More units.
