Did bedding folks ever get any sleep in Vegas?
By David Perry -- Furniture Today, August 26, 2007
Las Vegas — Celebrities, dancers and Asian treats were among the offerings drawing retailers to bedding parties during the recent market here.
While the bedding party scene was a bit less frenetic than at the January market here, where several new permanent bedding showrooms made their debut, there was still plenty of excitement in World Market Center showrooms and in venues on the Las Vegas Strip.
Visco-elastic bedding leader Tempur-Pedic once again hosted a party for its dealers in its WMC showroom, offering a tasty array of Eastern and Western appetizers, including Chinese takeout boxes stuffed with noodles.
The focus of that party was Tempur-Pedic's new advertising campaign, which Rick Anderson, president of Tempur-Pedic North America, introduced for the company's guests. "I want to say thank you," Anderson said to the company's dealers, drawing a round of applause.
Party action on the Vegas Strip was also heated. Therapedic once again saluted brand partner Kathy Ireland with a party at the Wynn. Ireland and her specialty brand partners, Nicholas Walker and Andre Carthen, mingled with guests at the party. Carthen, who heads Ireland's ACafe brand, was talking about his new coffee-colored bedding line, while Walker, who heads the J du J brand, shared his thoughts about an upcoming bedding line he's developing.
In her public comments at the party, Ireland thanked the retailers who are helping make the Kathy Ireland Home line at Therapedic a success. Therapedic President Gerry Borreggine introduced Ireland as Therapedic's business partner and brand coordinator.
Perhaps the fanciest bedding party was at Pure Nightclub at Caesars Palace, where guests of the Specialty Sleep Assn. joined the Vegas party set for an evening of dancing and socializing. That member appreciation event also gave the association a chance to salute Denny Boyd, president of Boyd Specialty Sleep, who is celebrating his 30th year in the business.
The SSA guests had their own party room at Pure, which regularly plays host to A-list Hollywood celebrities. And it was just a short walk to the lounge home of the Pussycat Dolls, the popular singing and dancing group, who staged energetic performances that were crowd favorites.
