Wood sources load up with lots of SKUs
By Jeff Linville -- Furniture Today, September 2, 2007
High Point — Organizers of High Point's revamped premarket promised to have lots of furniture on display, and exhibitors followed through.
While some pieces were only on paper, samples represented most of the collections at the August event, a two-day preview for the High Point Market, which opens Oct. 1.
Also, many exhibitors brought out groups with higher SKU counts than at recent premarkets.
Bernhardt usually shows two new groups each market, but this time it showed four collections, including a sixth installment in its popular Martha Stewart line.
While a few pieces might get pruned by market, Bernhardt's Cascade group includes 43 bedroom and dining items and 18 for the living room (stationary upholstery, occasional and home entertainment). Arlington has 39 wood pieces and 16 for the living room. Stewart's new Dunemere group has 52 wood SKUs, including two bedroom and dining suites, two home office sets and four occasional groups.
For those who like entertaining at home, Bernhardt also is adding 36 pieces to Social Hour, bringing the line to 85. Included are new pub and gathering-height tables, barstools and counter stools, wine cabinets and occasional pieces. The three entertainment pieces also are new.
One company continuing with a heavy slate of intros, as it has for the past couple of years, is SLF. While an exact SKU count was not available at premarket, SLF will offer multiple new collections, and some tweaked versions of pieces first shown in Las Vegas.
Santera, Cortez and a new finish for the San Marino line were all in Las Vegas. New for High Point are Bayside, Waterford, Newport, Silhouette and a girls' French white group, Queens Gate.
SLF also had sketches of four other sets at premarket, which may be ready for fall.
Pulaski, SLF's sister company, also is introducing a number of case goods pieces this fall. While the company has often had strong offerings in occasional, this will be one of its largest markets for case goods. On display at premarket were Pleasant Valley, Timber Heights, Northridge, Sixth Street and an unnamed group with an intricate inlaid vine motif.
Also coming is Pulaski's third group for the Casa Cristina collection, developed with Hispanic TV personality Cristina Saralegui. The suite includes a wraparound bed and a wide armoire with removable shelves to accommodate a flat-panel TV.
Magnussen Home will introduce three collections and will show two that debuted in Las Vegas.
Hooker will show Chatham, Seneca, Centre Street and Westcott/Chardonnay, the same silhouettes in two finishes.
Kincaid will have about 70 new SKUs between three collections, two domestic and one imported.
