Fabrics for October intros reflect desire for change

Susan M. Andrews -- Furniture Today, September 16, 2007

Manufacturers had no trouble finding interesting fabrics to showcase on their sofas and chairs at the upcoming High Point Market. And several made bold choices that are sure to be favorites among those upholstery buyers looking to truly refresh — not just replenish — their retail selling floors or catalog pages.

The new covers include "green" and sustainable fabrics, metallic fabrics and faux leathers, velvets of all kinds and plenty of beautiful silks. Particularly notable are a silver and turquoise embroidered silk from Mulberry House with a stunning 75-inch vertical repeat that can be seen at Pearson, remarkable custom tapestry options from Beljen at Michael Thomas Furniture and Craftex Mills' new Meridian Green fabrics, featured at Harden Furniture.

Here Global Textiles Today presents highlights of the latest fabric selections debuting at the October market for the possible consideration of consumers next spring.

BELLE FABRICS AT PEARSON

Pattern 7953-86 is an imported multicolor patchwork madras of viscose, cotton and linen that's bringing an exotic flavor to new frames for market.

WESLEY MANCINI FOR VALDESE WEAVERS AT TEMPLE FURNITURE

Emanuel's colorful stripe of rayon, viscose and polyester will cover an elegant track arm, pillow-back chair.

TEXTURE FABRICS AT TAYLOR KING FURNITURE

Chloe, an overscaled frame in pure silk, covers two carved imported chairs featuring gimp, nailhead trim and throw pillows.

VILLA NOVA DÉCOR AND TIETEX INTERIORS AT CRAFTMASTER

Art Deco touches are evident in Villa Nova's Vintage Camel, a rayon and polyester fabric that is combined with Tietex Interiors' Sisal Agate, a textured solid of polyester, acrylic and cotton, for a new 100-inch three-over-three traditional sofa.

ONYX AGE AT EXCELSIOR DESIGNS

This posh, copper-color blend of silk and wool covers the contemporary Hudson chair from the Nicole Miller collection, in combination with shades of chocolate accented with metallic threads.

CIRCA 1801 AND COSTA BLANCA TEXTILES AT NORWALK FURNITURE

Circa 1801's Veko, a stylized botanical in shades of natural and brown of mercerized cotton and rayon, and Costa Blanca's Tina, a striking black-and-white tropical velvet of cotton, polyester, acrylic and nylon, are dressing a modern track-arm sofa and modern chair, respectively.

WESTLAKE AT SAM MOORE FURNITURE

A modern and whimsical layered floral pattern, Daffodil Spice, of rayon and polyester, is the eye-catching cover for a contemporary exposed wood chair.

BELJEN TAPESTRIES AT MICHAEL THOMAS

Ornament 1 is a custom-woven, full-count tapestry pattern, domestically produced, that is covering the outback of dining chairs debuting at the fall market. Polyester, cotton and rayon.

TEXTILE FABRIC ASSOCIATES AT HICKORY HILL Undeniably's classic patterns will enhance a vintage style sofa with multi-pillow back and nailhead trim.

NICOLETTI LEATHER AT NICOLETTI Timeless is a full-grain protected leather that will cover contemporary and transitional styles at the upcoming market.

CONE JACQUARDS AND CULP AT BEST HOME FURNISHINGS

Cone's Duplex, an interesting mix of contemporary patterns and textures in polyester and rayon, is paired with Culp's Platinum, a gleaming skin-look microdenier polyester, on contemporary sofas and chairs.

TIETEX INTERIORS AND AMERICAN TRIM MFG. AT HARDEN FURNITURE

Serena Maple, a medallion paisley jacquard of rayon, polyester and cotton from Tietex, is part of a new collage sofa trimmed with this lush 10-inch tassel fringe and braid from American Trim Mfg.

MOLTENI AND ENVIRO TEXTILES AT PALECEK FURNITURE

An organic hopsack of bamboo, linen, cotton and hemp from Molteni and 100% hemp fabrics from Enviro Textiles, respectively, are showcased on a slipper sectional and mid-century lounge chair debuting at market.

KEYSTONE WEAVING AT JOHNSTON BENCHWORKS

SUNBURY TEXTILES, TEXTILE FABRIC ASSOCIATES & ULTRAFABRICS AT NORWALK FURNITURE

Sunbury's Lacet, a feminine design of polyester, rayon and flax; TFA's Twisted, a glossy, energetic pattern of rayon and polyester; and Ultrafabrics' Ultraleather Sterling, a pearlized faux leather of polyurethane, are debuting on Candice Olson upholstery.

S&D LEATHER AT HARDEN FURNITURE
