Compiled by Susan Dickenson -- Furniture Today, September 16, 2007

Product roundup

Shades of India of Palo Alto, Calif., won Best of Market in the N.Y. Home Textiles Market Week's Best New Product competition for its Terra Cuite table runner, featuring fine gold leaf printed onto a linen base. Awards also were presented in product-specific categories to Mastro Raphael (Spoleto, Italy) for its Victor/Victoria bed collection; Forza Home (Bursa, Turkey) for its bamboo towel collection; V Rugs & Home (Miami) for its napkin roll with sea shell pin; and Matteo (Los Angeles) for its Tube throw, a 100% four-ply Nepalese cashmere throw blanket knitted to form a tube and designed to be worn.

The Ernest Hemingway collection will debut its first collection of outdoor area rugs at the October High Point Market. The rugs, designed by Loloi Rugs of Dallas, are manufactured using a new technology to enhance durability for prolonged outdoor use in all climates. The collection will debut in the Loloi Rugs showroom at 224 E. Kivett Drive.

The Museum of Modern Art's new Fall 2007 Design Store includes exclusive products from textile designers Sandy Chilewich and Liora Manné. Chilewich's collection of placements, floor mats, bags and accessories marks her 10th anniversary with MoMA, a relationship that commenced in 1997 with the introduction of the designer's RayBowls at the MoMA Design Store.

Business briefs

Fenton Art Glass will be ceasing operations over the next few months. "This decision was difficult," said President George Fenton. "Since the announcement in June regarding our efforts toward financial restructuring, we took many steps to try to continue the company's operations and the tradition of glassmaking. Ultimately, those efforts were not successful."

Nova Lighting has acquired Orange, Calif.-based Jon Gilmore Designs, a contemporary wall decor company, and Oxnard, Calif.-based American Lamp Co., a casual transitional portable lamp manufacturer. The additions expand the Nova line to include hard-wired fixtures, sculpture, mirrors, clocks, screens and accent furniture.

Jean-René Gougelet has been named president of Burnes Home Accents, a position that had remained vacant since C.R. Gibson's acquisition of the company a year ago. Gougelet will oversee sales, marketing and operations for both the Burnes and Connoisseur brands, which serve the department/specialty store and mass-market channels of trade, respectively, and will have full responsibility for profit building and return on assets.

Randy Bourne has left his position as executive vice president of brand development at home accessory and furniture source Interlude Home and is pursuing other opportunities. Bourne led the product development and marketing efforts for the launch of Interlude's lifestyle divisions, including Interlude Studio, Interlude Beach, Counterpoint by Interlude and Interlude Lodge.

Barry Wabler has been named the new president of Currey & Co. Former President Marion Kelly, who joined the company in 2003, remains associated with Currey & Company as a consultant in sales and marketing.
