Textile group NCTO elects Stowe president

Harding Stowe has been elected chairman of the National Council of Textile Organizations, a trade association representing the entire spectrum of the textile industry.

Stowe, president and CEO of R.L. Stowe Mills, is the third generation of his family to run the company and currently is a vice president of the National Cotton Council.

Wally Darneille, president and CEO of Plains Cotton Cooperative Assn., was elected first vice chairman, and Anderson Warlick, president and CEO of Parkdale Mills, was elected second vice chairman.

NCTO is headquartered here and also has an office in Gastonia, N.C.

During the group's fourth annual meeting in Washington, the following were elected to the board of directors, which is organized in councils:

  • Fabric and Home Furnishings Council: Hank Byrd, Schneider Mills; Roger Chastain, Mount Vernon Mills; James Copland, Copland Inds.; Allen Gant, Glen Raven Inc.; Jerry Rowland, Hanesbrands Inc.; and Hank Truslow, Sunbury Textile Mills.

  • Fiber Council: Bob Francois, INVISTA; Jane Johnson, Unifi; and Joe Tucker, Wellman Inc.

  • Yarn Council: Allen Barwick, Shuford Yarns; Malloy Evans, Frontier Spinning Mills; Josh Hamilton, Wellstone Mills; Trey Hodges, Swift Spinning; Gilbert Patrick, Patrick Yarn Mills; and Robin Perkins, Frontier Spinning Mills.

  • Industry Support Council: Joe Okey, American Monforts; Gail Strickler, Duro Textile; and John Dunavant, Dunavant Enterprises.

New officers include Mike Hubbard, secretary, NCTO; Werner Bieri, treasurer, Buhler Quality Yarns Corp.; and Cass Johnson, president and CEO, NCTO.

In addition, chairmen were named for the following NCTO program committees: Cotton: Andy Warlick, Parkdale; Regulatory & Standards: Jim Booterbaugh, National Spinning Co.; and Trade & Economic Policy: Allen Gant, Glen Raven.

The NCTO describes itself as "domestically focused to ensure a prosperous future for the U.S. textile sector and globally positioned to work effectively with our international allies."
