Ikea set to open Fla. unit Nov. 14

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, September 30, 2007

Ikea said it will open its second Florida store here Nov. 14.

The 309,000-square-foot store, on a 22-acre site near Conroy Road and the Mall of Millenia, will be the Top 100 company's third in the Southeast and 33rd in the United States.

Ikea has yet to set the date for its first Florida store — in the South Florida city of Sunrise — but said it will open before the Orlando store.

A third Florida store is scheduled to open in Tampa during summer 2009.

"Due to the progress made during the spring and summer, we are confident the remaining construction milestones and interior build-up process will be complete by November," said Michael la Cour, store manager of the future Ikea Orlando.

"Now, our primary objective is to continue hiring and training the nearly 350 local hires who will be joining the Ikea family before we open."
