Rare Collections forms accent division
Items made in China using U.S. woods

HIGH POINT — High-end case goods importer Rare Collections has formed an accent division called Rare Accents.
Launched at this month’s High Point Market, the division offers 12 occasional pieces ranging from $699 lamp tables to $1,999 consoles. Made from solid alder and U.S. cherry veneers, the items are sourced in southern China and are available in two or three finishes.
“At the high end, it’s about variety and selection,” said company President and CEO Steve Hendrick, adding that the items received a generally positive reaction from retailers at market. “Customers recognize the value and like the design. We did place orders on these accents.”
Rare Collections originally was the exclusive U.S. distributor for Sansegal Home Designs. When Sansegal broadened its focus beyond furniture production last year, Rare Collections received the rights to market and sell the former Sansegal product line. Those and future collections will be sold under the Rare Collections name.
The company has been selling occasional items within its case goods collections. Hendrick said he chose to expand with an accents division in response to the demand for items that fall outside the collections. But since they come in the same finishes offered in various collections, the items also can complement those same collections.
He said the new goods are in production and will begin shipping from China in mid-December. Orders should hit retail floors by early February.
At least 15 additional pieces are planned for the April market and Hendrick is working on more for next October.
