Fresh 'green' designs from the October High Point Market

Manufacturers get creative with new wood and upholstery

A wave of fresh, new eco-friendly “green” furniture – both wood and upholstery -- was introduced at the October High Point Market. The introductions reflected the growing interest in furnishings made of sustainably harvested woods, organic cottons and other natural or recycled materials. Here are 25 highlights from Furniture/Today’s showroom visits during market.

Bernhardt’s Cascade china features plantation-grown rubberwood with a finish that contains 47% less volatile organic compounds than previously used finishes.

Charleston Forge’s Retreat console features wood reclaimed from the demolition of an old lake house on the shores of Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia. A limited edition, only 100 pieces will be made.

This Casual Living panel bed is part of the new Cresent Classics program. The bed features sustainably forested solid American cherry and maple hardwoods.

DeCoro USA’s Atlantic contemporary black leather sofa features the company’s exclusive BLOX “green” finishing treatment that is a water-based and chemical-free alternative to other treatments that may contain cancer-causing agents. As shown, this contemporary frame retails for about $999.

Furniture Classics’ No. 71080 Old Elm chest is made of reclaimed, antique elm doors with oxidized rustic hardware.

This new, eco-friendly upholstery group from Harden Furniture features eight “green” covers made of 100% pesticide-free, organically grown cotton. The sofa features certified-sustainable cherry wood for the feet.

The Tuscan Verve console, from Home Trends & Design, features a rustic design with traditional European style influences. Pieces in the collection are made with plantation-grown mango and acacia.
