Anthony G. 'Tony' Lindsay, designer

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, October 21, 2007

Retired upholstery and home furnishings designer and sales representative Anthony G. "Tony" Lindsay has died after a long battle with cancer. He was 68.

Lindsay worked in the textile industry for more than 40 years. He began at Cannon Mills and ultimately became vice president and creative director, reporting to then-owner David Murdock.

Lindsay was responsible for many top-selling bedding ensembles. Later, he held the same position for Fieldcrest Cannon after their merger in the mid-1980s, supervising design directors and staff of both companies.

He held many positions during his career, including design director, sales manager, sales representative and consultant. He also was a faculty adviser for the Fashion Institute of Technology and chaired the North Carolina State University Textile Design Advisory Board.

Most recently, Lindsay was a designer and sales rep for David Rothschild Co. in Reidsville, N.C. He also has held key positions with Elizabeth Weaving and Culp Inds.

His son Kevin is a fabric sales rep for David Rothschild and Advantage International Fabrics. Lindsay also is survived by his wife, two other children, 10 grandchildren and a sister.
