Arrest of day laborers spurs protest outside furniture store
East Phoenix store owner, others, said laborers were bad for business

PHOENIX — Demonstrators rallied outside an east Phoenix furniture store here Saturday for the third weekend in a row to protest the local sheriff’s arrest of day laborers in the area, according to a report in The Arizona Republic.
M.D. Pruitt’s owner Roger Sensing and other businesses in the area asked the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office for help removing day laborers from the area, saying their presence hampers business, the newspaper reported.
