Magi Seal, Protect-A-Bed distributor in venture
October 30, 2006-- Furniture Today,
Furniture protection and warranty specialist Magi Seal will market and distribute Protect-A-Bed mattress protectors in Canada under a new joint venture agreement with Caber Distributors.
Toronto-based Caber, meanwhile, will continue to distribute Protect-A-Bed and also will market Magi Seal service programs and products to specialty sleep retailers.
"Both companies are cross-selling their products to their respective customers," said Brad Geddes, Magi Seal president. However, each company is responsible for delivering its product to the retailers, although Magi Seal may inventory PAB product for some customers as required, he said.
Magi Seal also is offering additional protection coverage combined with Protect-A-Bed mattress protectors, called Protect-A-Bed Complete. This will provide replacement coverage against accidental staining and damage for mattresses bought with a PAB mattress protector, said Geddes.
Added Caber President and CEO Bernard Weinstein, "Our partnership with Magi Seal enables us to meet the needs of retailers who want to complement our mattress protector products with Magi Seal's extended service plans."
The arrangement doesn't include the Comfor-Pedic line of mattresses and foundations, which Caber introduced to the Canadian market earlier this year.
Geddes said the agreement will allow Magi Seal and Caber to grow their business with existing customers.
"Both Magi Seal and Protect-A-Bed are experiencing substantial growth from retailers who desire a one-stop solution for extended service and protection programs from providers that are focused on delivering exceptional customer satisfaction," he said.
He said Magi Seal plans are sold by more than 300 home furnishings stores while Protect-A-Bed is offered by about 520 stores in Canada. Although better known for its furniture protection products, Magi Seal markets mattress protection programs for specialty sleep stores, including service plans to guard against accidental staining and plans for mattress replacement.
"While Magi Seal has been developing its 'best-of-breed' strategy to provide retailers with the industry's leading product lines in the protection category, PAB has been expanding its market share through replacement of the traditional quilted mattress pads in order to meet the growing demand for moisture-proof terry mattress protectors," Geddes said. "PAB has more than 70% of the terry mattress protector market in North America."
