Carpenter receives Rudicil Award
October 16, 2013,
GREENSBORO. N.C. - Dave Carpenter, director of credit for La-Z-Boy High Point, received the Furniture Manufacturers Credit Assn.'s highest honor at the group's annual meeting here.
Carpenter received the R.K Rudicil II Award for the second time in his career with La-Z-Boy. A longtime member of FMCA, the member-owned company of industry credit managers, Carpenter has served three terms as the group's president over the years.
The award recognizes outstanding achievement and service to FMCA. In presenting the honor, FMCA current President Ron Teglas, director of credit for Lexington Home Brands, said Carpenter "stepped up" to help Teglas and FMCA during a year of dramatic change for the group.
Others honored for outstanding service included Curtis Porter, credit manager for Rowe Furniture, who received the Central North Carolina Credit Manager of the Year award, and Judy Prowant, credit manager for International Furniture Direct, who received the J. Steve Osborne Credit Manager of the Year honor for FMCA's Western division.
Rose Knight, credit manager for Fairfield Chair, also was recognized for her work as a first time board member.
Heritage Awards, presented to member companies that have supported FMCA throughout the year, were presented to Bernhardt Furniture, Fairfield Chair, Home Meridian International, La-Z-Boy High Point, Legacy Classic Furniture, Lexington Home Brands, Sealy, Spring Air and Universal Furniture.
Bernhardt is the only company to receive the Heritage Award since its inception, and this year's presentation paid tribute to the late J. Steven Osborne, former FMCA supporter, president and the former senior credit manager for Bernhardt, who died in a motorcycle accident in 1995.
Also at the meeting, FMCA members voted unanimously in favor of consolidating its central and western regional divisions into one.
This year's FMCA officers are Teglas, who is repeating as president; Wendy Tester, Vanguard Furniture, vice president; Carpenter, La-Z-Boy High Point, treasurer; and Glenn Hendren, Legacy Classic Furniture, secretary. Rick Clanton, C.R. Laine, rejoined the boar, and Knight is serving the second year of her first term.
Teglas also was honored for his FMCA leadership last year.
